Week 5, Macro Photography, something I have looked forward to doing, but much as I tried, I could not do as well with the planned macros as I have done when they just seem to happen! Almost as if I have to digest the information and get rid of my natural inclinations to use it! Sometimes that is a difficult adjustment!

I do have some new macro 'weapons' for better shots, though. Just the spot metering, aperture and exposure compensation seem good for getting rid of some of the shadows created by the camera being so close to the subject.

Using the zoom when in macro mode did not get me good photos! I believe it is possible and will work more at accomplishing that in the future. I find that on the Olympus C 5050 Z, the Super Macro, manual, worked best and gave me great control of the closeness...with possibilities of as close as 3cm. Other LVS courses taken

  1. This is an antique piece of jewelry that my son bought for my birthday this year and I love it! The light and colors of it are really beautiful.
  2. I am including a cropped sample from the shot so that the capture of the color and light can be seen even closer.
  3. This is a shot of a miniature Annalee doll's face. With the macro shots, you can see fibers that you don't even notice with your naked eye!
  4. I ventured outside and tried to get some insects to cooperate, but very few did! However, it was a beautiful day and I found some other things I thought worth capturing. This was a grass head, in its natural bent position. No photo correction at all.
  5. Here we have a marigold, not too far away from where I photographed the grass head. I was attracted by the brilliance of its color and am pleased that it still looks so bright and colorful in this macro shot.

The ruler experiment for me was a total failure using the Macro Mode with the telephoto at Wide. Tried many, all blurry. However, the Super macro at 3 cm closeness, was clear, but I can see a bit of the barrel distortion on the lines.

I have so much to experiment with in my camera, had even thought about replacing it with a bigger and better camera! All to try to get some of what is quite possible with this one! All I needed to know was what to do with these buttons...
