Photo Collage of Gaspee Days Parade, 2003
It was my assignment to take photos of the annual Gaspee Days Parade which commemorates the burning of the HMS Gaspee in 1772 by a group of citizens from Providence, Rhode Island. The parade is held each June in the City of Warwick

The day was quite overcast, with a forecast of showers. The showers did not materialize and there was a brightening of the skies as the day progressed.

To visit the Gaspee Days Website, jus click on Gaspee.

This is one collage with the motto/slogan with which the Gaspee (short history of the event here) incident is remembered. The first act for freedom, it brought the colonies together to fight for a common cause, freedom from King George III.
Photo Collage of Gaspee Parade 2003, 2nd choice I am interested to know which collage or montage (not so sure which term describes it correctly) seems to be more appealing.

This is the very first collage from 3 or 4 years ago. As you can see, the parade participants appear as quite the same each year, colonial costumes and gear.

All the photowork was done in Adobe Photoshop 7.0.1. The extractions from complex backgrounds were painstakingly done with the Extract Filter, the background eraser, the eraser and some mask editing.

The girls in the collage were extracted from this photo. You can see the back of the boy with the yellow flag shown marching here, part of the Yankee Fifie and Drum Corp Volunteers.

I would be happy to answer any questions about the processes or parade photos in e-mail.
