I had never really gotten on friendly terms with the Brush Creator and so the bulk of my time was spent exploring and experimenting. I will never use Painter again without using the Brush creator, love it!

The thumbnails will open to a larger window with the exception of the first 2 of the 3 at the very bottom of the page. Close each after viewing.

I enlarged the provided photo, increased its hue and saturation . I then cloned out the strawberry between the apple and mango since it seemed somewhat out of proportion (or at least I thought it might look that way in a painting of the image). I then made a selection of the apple, placed it where the strawberry was, gave it a mask and edited the mask of the apple so that it would fit between the apple and the mango. I removed, with the Cloning Tool, whatever was in the upper left corner. I then cropped the image. All of this was done in Photoshop CS2.

In Painter IX.5, I experimented with so many brushes that I was becoming totally tired of looking at the same image (but it was such a good chance to experiment with the Brush Creator!). I ended up using the Artists' Oils and one of the Blenders. For highlighting and shadows, I used the Eraser set to either Darken or Bleach

This is my first attempt at 'clone coloring' a face and although I like the result I can see where, with a bit more time, I would rework some areas of the face. It is my granddaughter, Kelly, at about 12 years old at a dance recital. I am including the original photos (of Kelly and also the geranium used for the background). In Photoshop, I did a selection with a 30 Pixel feather to remove Kelly from the original photo and pasted it with several layers of the geranium, moved things around until they lined up and then worked in Painter with 'clone colors'.

When I wanted more reality(eyes, etc.) I found the airbrush lightly sprayed over the Artists' Oils was helpful. I used the Detail Airbrush to place a bit of light in her eyes. The Airbrush, Inverted Pressure added a bit of color to her cheeks...cannot remember what I used to heighten the color of her lips! A discovery that the Lighting in Painter seems to do a better job than the lighting in Photoshop and so I used it to to bring out the middle area of the image. I ended with at least 4 different renditions and so felt it was time to stop.

(Only the third thumbnail, the collage, will open to a new widnow.)

The photo was taken in a large gym locker type of room used for changing and makeup at the dance recital. The geraniums used in the background...The Collage

Looking forward to what comes next!
