Photoshop 7&8:Starting with a Blank Canvas

Week 1 Shapes

I have begun a course at LVS on Line with Janee Aronoff of myjanee.com.

May 18, 2004, Week 1 Completed

This was so much fun and I feel as if I learned a lot of things I never would have discovered on my own! Click on the thumbnails for larger images.

Photoshop 7 & 8: Starting with a Blank Canvas

"Play around with the shape tools, and come up with a composition or a piece of...abstract art!"

Every object in this image is a shape from the Custom Shape Library. I went wild with them and tried to use as many as I could and in an assortment of colors. Hope you can see the shape clouds through the fence. And the shape snail . This was really a lot of fun and I would not have tried it...left to my own devices!

Shapes Image
Make a Custom Shape, save it into a new Shape Library, all your own!

The snail is part of the Photoshop Library of Custom Shapes. The flower is constructed from Ellipse Shapes with the "Exclude overlapping shape areas" selected for the shapes' interactions.

Compound Shape
Shape Celebration
"Make a new file and use your new shape along with Layer Styles, Blending Modes and different colors to make a"celebration" of your new shape.

I did that and applied all kinds of Blending Modes and Layer Styles!

"Use the Line Tool to create a composition. Use one of the color schemes we talked about earlier."

I used Analogous Colors to create the composition. I seemed to have gone for 'chubby' arrows to make the picket fence and the houses (bird and human). The only other tool is the round opening for the birds to get in or out. The birds are arrow lines with some transformation done to suggest a bird's body. (I am hoping that this is acceptable for the assignment.)

Line Composition
My Line Gradient
Create a Line Gradient as Fill for an image background or manipulated art.

I enjoyed doing this and had great difficulty choosing what I liked! I liked so many.

Yes! I wanna make plaid!

It was great fun making plaid! Again, I had a hard time choosing what I liked most.

Halftone Image
Yes, I never did do this before...Halftone Lines.

I never used Halftone, ever. I had no idea it could do something as interesting as this. I must say, though, that the colors I have make your eyes vibrate a bit when you look at it in full size.

Shape Collage
The Shape Collage: "Using any or all of the techniques you learned in this session, create a composition. You can use lines, shapes, and/or grids in any combination."

I used 2 Complementary Colors, Halftone lines, and some of the Custom Shapes creatures with the Exclude option for shape interaction.
