Painter Brushes I
Lesson 3
Creating Your Own Paper Textures and
Painting with Textures
Week 3 really became addictive to me when I began creating papers! I realize now that I can create a paper from just about any photo or drawing or text I create and have stored on my Hard Drive. I really enjoyed piling up painted (Chalk, Charcoal, etc.) grainy layers and then even applying a paper texture to the finished project. Applying different color variations and inverting the papers only added to the addiction. I really had to force myself to stop...
I used many sources for my papers and I will list some:
- Photos I took
- zebras at the Roger Williams Park Zoo
- Monarch butterfly in my front yard
- tree bark
- Images
- poppies image hose painting in Painter
- Dover image scanned from book that I own
- Text
- Description typed in and captured as paper
Here are the results.

Sponges
This 'sponge tree'...amazing that the sponge can lend its texture to resemble foliage.

Gouache
Last, the lemons. I had a great problem finding the default Painter Color set! For anyone else wondering how to access the set when YOUR Painter loads with a different one, you need to go looking for it! Here is the secret: on the Color Sets Palette, click the little black arrow, top right. Choose Open Color Set and then navigate to Resources and choose Painter Colors.colors. I was very frustrated looking for it because it opens to Support Files and that is NOT where the default Painter Colors are.
The Gouache painting of lemons was fun to do and I learned to like the Gouache brushes!

My bottom lemon looks flat and needs more shading but, I am out of time.
Great lesson!
