Masking the Photo

The first step involves masking the image to block out the details you don't want in your 3 D image. Steps for this process with the sand castle:
  1. Use the Magic Wand Tool to select large areas of the unwanted details
  2. Invert the selection so that your are masking what you don't want as part of your 3D image
  3. In Quick Mask view, the color choices become Black and White. Using a brush of large to small diameter (depending on the size of the area you are masking), paint with the black into the areas you wish to mask. Use white to paint back areas that may accidently become masked but are part of the desired final image.
  4. Switch back and forth between the Selection and Quick Mask view in order to see how well the selection is progressing.
