Here you can see the effects of drifting. Somehow the wind caused the snow that would have been in this clear area to settle somewhere else. That is what causes a difficulty with exact measurement of a snow fall. Some places there were drifts of 8 feet and then, as here, bare ground. They say that the true measure of accumulation is to get the 'water content' of the storm and translate that into inches. |
