About the Photos...

The photos on these pages were taken with the agfa 1680 with the resolution sometimes as low as 307. Yet the detail and clarity of the images is, to my eyes, superb! Thanks to my family who waited as I tried to get just the right angle on some animal or display. Towards the end, they had to wait while I made the tough decision to delete some of the shots because my memory card was bulging! There is one photo I regret I could not get...the stone lions outside one of the older buildings of the zoo. I know they would have made an excellent opening for this site! That won't happen again for I now have a second memory card with 8 MBs of storage. (That was 4 years ago, and now, with an Olympus C-5050Z, 8 MBs would be as nothing.)

I have not this time cluttered the pages with a lot of words and shall try to explain everything here.

My daughter, granddaughters and I were given a wonderful trip by my son-in-law, Glenn, to New York, to visit the Bronx Zoo on August 4, 1999. Afterwards, we had a ride through New York City where we saw Central park, f.a.o.schwarz, the Flat Iron Building, Park Avenue, etc. It was just a drive through with a promise to return someday and spend time in some of the stores or walking along the streets or taking the horse drawn cab ride through Central Park.

Now, about the photos. The three on this page were used to make the back grounds using a program called 20/20 which can tile a photograph seamlessly and in such a way so that the file size remains small enough to be used as a background. I have done away with those backgrounds ion this edition!

Since I had nearly 50 photos from the zoo, I have tried to be selective, but have probably retained more than necessary to show what we saw.

The otters were especially appealing...that day someone had lost his sunglasses down into the otter display pool and one of the inventive otters was trying to put them on! Otters are a delight to watch.

The black leopard or panther was an extremely lucky shot! I prize it. The firefox was so cute but I was unable to get a good shot of it and so must be satisfied with what I do have. I must have watched the gorilla for at least 45 minutes but, could not be watching from the right place to capture some of the actions he was performing. The butterfly garden was another beautiful place for photos but it was at the end of the day and the memory card was full!
