Digital Art, with instructor Hillary Sadur, is offered at LVS Online. Hillary has her own site with some tutorials that are very helpful for drawing and painting. Hillary uses Photo Impact by Ulead, yet her tutorials are helpful regardless of the application you might use. Hillary's Site

The course is presented with Ulead PhotoImpact in mind but is general in scope so that any graphics application can be used. I am using both Corel Painter IX and Adobe Photoshop CS. Lots of drawing and painting basics information!

Photo of Miss Kitty Cucumber Sketch with painting begun Kitty Cucumber, final
I had this photo of some things I keep on the top of the blanket chest in my bedroom. This is Miss Kitty Cucumber, given to me years ago by a student as a last day of school gift. I love it! The funny area at the top right of the hat is a place where a piece is missing from having been broken in a fall.
  1. The photo, which I cropped asymmetrically.
  2. The sketch, using the 2B pencil in Painter IX. Painting begun using Pastels and Oil Pastels.
  3. Painting completed using the Oil Pastels and the Airbrush in Painter. There are few touches here and there with Pen brushes as well.

I wanted very much to be able to give some idea that this was a ceramic piece and feel that I almost did it...at least at the collar and the little chalk board.

Pot and cup in blue tones... Sketch of pot and flowers... Yellow, first painting... Some color correcting and added lines and shadows...
Again, I used Painter IX.
  1. The blue painting is simply a tracing/sketching of the original image. Still unsure of shading and lighting. Painter Artists' Oils and Airbrushes were used . A paper texture was applied.
  2. I used the base of the coffee pot to make a vase. The daffodils are some I had bought at the market and had in a clear glass. I placed them on the tablet and sketched them (being careful not to tip the whole thing over). I was trying to observe the refraction caused by the water against the stems. After a while I could not tell what I was drawing or looking at! I did notice that the stems, as they enter the water, seem to become disconnected from the parts out of the water.
  3. This is the original painting. I used Oil brushes in Painter. I found the Feathering brush good for doing some of the faint lined detail in the stems.
  4. This rendition is a further development of the original. I used the Sargent brush to give a little water distortion. I added some detail lines using Pen brushes. Some final touches given with the Airbrush.
