Painter IX

November, 2004

I loved using the pencils in Painter! I had always bypassed them for brushes that I thought were more exciting. I found that by changing opacity, size, and variant (thinking too, of cover or buildup)that pencils are as exciting as any brush. I chose my daughter's cat, Max, an Abyssinian, as my subject. For this, I used the 2B, Cover Pencil and Thick and Thin.

I did do some experiments with the Greasy Pencil and found that it only seems to work after I have put down some strokes from other pencils. But, it is very interesting and seems to do a blending of colors. Used it on Simba, second subject, a Balinese.

I have sinced changed class to the Paitner IX Using Artist's Oils. The work is here.
