Extracting Hairy Wisps From a Background
| This has been a long project to try to get wispy hairs isolated from a varied background. I found that using many Photoshop tools finally got the hair as I wanted but I had to sacrifice color. I used a combination of the Magic Wand, tolerance set really low and at contiguous. Then, I worked with the Background Eraser, again tolerance set really low. I did use the Extract Filter a few times, but had very limited success with it. I used the Channel Mixer to get the sepia tone which hides some of the problem with separating the wisps from the background.. |

| This is the photo I started with, taken with the new Olympus C5050Z, with a telephoto lens. When I was using the Extract Filter, I was able to capture the fuzziness on my daughter's arm, but capturing and extracting wisps of hair is a whole different story!
Another photo extraction of Lauren which seems more successful can be found here.
