The Crazy Patchwork Purse
July, 2009

I made a purse using the crazy patchwork idea using 5 coordinated fat quarters and Vogue pattern V8099 which can be seen here. The patchwork pieces are placed and sewn to a canvas rectangle which is then sewn all over with decorative stitches from the Janome MC 11000. The purse back and front were then cut from the pieced fabric and sewn together with bottom, flap, straps and lining. The flap is decorated with an Oriental machine embroidery design and surrounded with some freeform decorative stitches. The strap was a bit of a decision...I was unsure, but decided on the black and white check. Now that the bag is complete, I am happy with that choice!

View 1shows the pieces that are together. I used the rotary cutter to cut the squares and strips for the patchwork.

View 2 is a closeup of the finished purse with a good view of the many decorative stitches.

View 3 shows the purse and the black and white checkered strap.

The patchwork fun continues. I have created an Autumn bag and one Christmas. At this moment, I am in the process of a second Christmas bag. Also included in the patchwork is a jacket. I do enjoy putting together the patchwork pieces, choosing the colors, textures and where they should meet each other in the work, but, my favorite part is just going 'crazy' with all the wonderful stictches and embroidery possible with my Janome MC 11000 Special Edition machine.

Here is a slide show including the latest work.
