The Serged Bags
July, 2009

I have been taking a class at Blaine Sewing Machine Center in Cranston, RI, with instructor Nancy Hoell. We are using a beginner's serger book, Ready, Set, Serge.

A class I am taking about serging has gotten me started with making little zippered purses. Now that I understand the process, I am creating some decorated and quilted fabric from which to make the purses...serged tassels as well. Just a beginning with serging and I really look forward to becoming adept with the machine.

The links on this page will lead to photos and explanations of the projects I have completed.

The bag back, a mistake I Bag
made by folding the bag to the wrong side after applying the zipper and closing the sides. There is a neat little trick for that zipper in the book..

The background for the sewing section pages is made from the photo of this bag.

This bag is for Kelly andSecond Bag
is now filled with all sorts of
useful things including hand sanitizer, Tic Tacs, pen and sticky notes, mirror, brush, lip gloss and amazing how much I could fit into that little bag. And, the items all have orange or yellow in their color schemes.
The scraps and bag fabric Before Construction
before the quilting, applique and decorative stitching. That is the part I enjoy most, embellishing the fabric!

Close-up

Here is close-up of the fabric and some of
the decorative stitches.

The tassel was created withTassel
a 2 thread chain stitch on the serger. I had a relatively easy time setting up for the tassel
with the Evolve. And almost as easy a time getting it all back to the 4 thread overlock. I have only had the Evolve for a week and feel comfortable with the threading.
