First Winter Snow

December 5, 2003

The first significant snowstorm for Rhode Island, southern New England, New England, the North East Coast came early this year. I noticed the first snowflakes in my area (Warwick, RI) at about 3:15 PM on Friday afternoon. It didn't stop snowing until late Sunday afternoon! It was incredible because the snow continued heavily , blowing and swirling. The sound of the wind howling was reminiscent of the Blizzard of 1978!

By the time the snowfall was over, we had received 18 inches of snow. I have several photos of my close surroundings during the snow, some at night (giving me a chance to try some night photography using the tripod and the auto night setting). Some sections of Rhode Island received over 2 feet of snow. Click on the thumbnails to open a larger view of the photo in a new window.
