On Columbus Day, October 13, 2003, I was in Wickford, Rhode Island and took a long walk around the village. My purpose was to photograph the doors of the colonial era homes there. Many have placards (such as the one used as the title of this section) with the date and family name of the original families living in the homes. This title plaque is from the Robert Potter house and can be seen in its original below.
Most of the doorway shots were slanted, showing what is described in the Photoshop manual as the keystone distortion. This distortion occurs when an object is photographed at an angle as opposed to a straight on shot. It seems that to have shot any of these doorways perfectly straight, I would have had to have been in the street dodging traffic (Wickford houses are very close to the street) and using some system to compose the shots with the straight on perspective in mind. Every photo here had to have a perspective correction using the transform perspective crop tool which made the shooting easier and faster!
